The 4th Leading Edge Conference in Diagnostic Ultrasound took place for the first time in Vancouver, BC, Canada. We changed the location of the Conference according to our on-line survey and to provide the opportunity for sonographers who could not travel to Vancouver Island. The Conference started with "Tuning into Excellence" which set the tone for the rest of day. Participants came from Calgary, Rossland, Victoria, Campbell River, Gibsons, Kelowna, Vernon, Langley, Port Moody, Surrey, Delta, Richmond, Burnaby and Vancouver. We were challenged this year to fit 10 CME credits in one day without jeopardizing the quality of learning. The comments from our participants demonstrated that we had met our learning objectives to their satisfaction. We were fortunate again to have the support of world class speakers who are recognized in their specialized field for their dedication to the advancement of diagnostic ultrasound in medicine, and the innovative ultrasound companies (Philips and Siemens) who generously supported this Conference. We continue to receive excellent feedback from our enthusiastic attendees who confirmed we were on the right track with our mission to assist sonographers to "STAY CURRENT" with rapidly changing ultrasound technology. Here are the summary of the comments we have received so far:
Roy from Port Moody
The Conference was tremendous. Tuning Into Excellence was an excellent choice for the first lecture, it set the tone for the day. Dr. Pugash is always good, almost no one else presents the fascinating OB cases the way she does. The Physics and Quality control talks were very good, and sadly this topic does not get much exposure in other Ultrasound conferences. Dr. Eugene Zierler presented his Vascular talks very well, carrying on the tradition of Dr. Eugene Strandness. I obtained much of my original vascular training from Dr. Strandness, at the old ATL facility. I have been out of vascular for ten years, but after the conference, I feel I can get right back to it again. Hamid's case presentations were second to none, we could all use more of those. Dr. Luck Louis presented MSK Ultrasound very well. Many find the MSK a bit confusing at first, but Dr. Louis made it look easy in his talk and in the practical demonstration. The only bad part of the Conference is that we will have to wait a year for the next one!
Danie from Surrey
Thank you very much for offering these conferences. I have found the presenters to be informative, well spoken, and approachable. The content continues to be at the forefront of sonography while maintaining a practical usefulness at the same time. The choice of locations is always well thought out to ensure that participants are comfortable, and that their needs are met. The size of the group allows attendees to freely participate in open dialogue with presenters at all times. Keep up the good work as I look forward to seeing you again next year!
Michele from Vancouver
I just wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful Conference on Saturday - your dedication to detail was apparent. I also wanted to comment Ruth on those amazing photographs you had in your presentation as we sonographers are all about pictures and less about words - a great way to start the morning and wake our "eyes" up! Again, thanks for your hard work!
Leah from Delta
I loved the dynamic pace of the Conference. Pack in as much as you can - time is precious. The knowledge, information and wisdom shared are incredibly useful to me. I look forward to your next gathering.
Maria from Campbell River
I always look forward to your Conference. I like this Conference because it is small and it is easy for interaction. I always take home with me some new ideas and new knowledge.
Petar from Vancouver
I thought the conference was very well organized, and I found the topics very interesting. Also, very good interaction from the attendees, it’s nice to get instant feedback during a presentation, makes for a much more interactive session. I was thinking that a ultrasound physics 101 presentation may be beneficial for the sonographers. If you understand the underlying principles of the operation for a piece of equipment it will definitely aide in trouble shooting, or interpretation of unexpected results.
Beverley from Vancouver
With the challenge of delivering 10 CME credits in a one day conference in Vancouver, the sonographer.ca team are to be complimented on a great professional Conference success. It was a long day of educational sessions one after another but the sequence of events allowed the flow to go smoothly from start to finish. There was a variety of topics presented specific to certain areas of Ultrasound. Regardless if you were actually using that modality, the information was still valuable. The speakers were outstanding and all were willing to give of their time to answer our questions. Every effort was made to make the comforts of a conference such as seating and food etc. convenient. Hamid and Ruth, the organizers, were open and welcoming and available at all times to aid the Conference attendees. Thank you for the web download of the handouts. These accessible downloads limit the note taking during sessions and allow full concentration.
Danielle from Victoria
It was a great Conference, I enjoyed it very much. I hope to see you next year.
Wendy from Rossland
I really enjoyed the conference and look forward to future offerings.
Darlene from Vernon
Thanks and congrats on a great conference.
Sandy from Victoria
Just wanted to personally thank you and Ruth for an excellent Conference. It was very well organized and informative. We (Siemens) are pleased to be a part of your continued education for Sonographers. Please let me know if I can assist in anyway in the future.
Overall comments from the evaluation forms:
Excellent Conference. Looking forward to the next Conference. I will attend no matter where you set it up.
Changing the location of Conference is always helpful as it provides opportunities for sonographers everywhere.
Very good Conference. Well done!
A great educational day!
Excellent Conference as usual. Thank you!
Really like the number of CME credits you get out of one day. Good variety of topics. Great job!
Great information, great effort, day was long but as it was in Vancouver, better to do one day for 10 CME credits rather than 2 days.
Great topics. Will not miss this next year. Appreciated the “limited” number of attendees.
Great day of learning, See you next year!
Interesting day, good variety of talks. I personally would enjoy more case studies, of course lots of images. Well done!
